Answer:

Explanation:

A Stem cell is a cell with the unique ability to develop into specialized cell types in the body. They serve as raw materials to the body. cells from which all other cells with specialized functions are generated.

Cells in the body have specific purposes, most cells are specialized to perform particular functions, such as red blood cells that carry oxygen around our bodies in the blood, but stem cells are cells that do not yet have a specific role and can become almost any cell that is required.

Stem cells provide new cells for the body as it grows, and replace specialized cells that are damaged or lost. They can divide over and over again to produce new cells. As they divide, they can change into the other types of cell that make up the body.

Stem cells are important for living organisms for many reasons. In a blastocyst, the inner cells give rise to the entire body of the organism, including all of the many specialized cell types and organs such as the heart, lungs, skin, sperm, eggs and other tissues.

Given their unique regenerative abilities, stem cells offer new potentials for treating diseases such as diabetes, and heart disease.

Stem cells originate from two main sources

1. Adult body tissues

2.  Embryos.

Adult stem cells. These stem cells are found in small numbers in most adult tissues, such as bone marrow or fat. Compared with embryonic stem cells, adult stem cells have a more limited ability to give rise to various cells of the body

Embryonic stem cells. These stem cells come from embryos that are three to five days old. At this stage, an embryo is called a blastocyst and has about 150 cells. they can divide into more stem cells or can become any type of cell in the body. This versatility allows embryonic stem cells to be used to regenerate or repair diseased tissue and organs.

Two mechanisms ensure that a stem cell population is maintained:

1.  Asymmetric cell division: a stem cell divides into one mother cell that is identical to the original stem cell, and another daughter cell that is differentiated.

When a stem cell self-renews it divides and does not disrupt the undifferentiated state. This self-renewal demands control of cell cycle as well as upkeep of multi potency or pluripotency, which all depends on the stem cell.

2. Stochastic differentiation: when one stem cell develops into two differentiated daughter cells, another stem cell undergoes mitosis and produces two stem cells identical to the original.

Answer:

Explanation:

Stem cells have the ability to divide through mitosis through meiosis through mitosis and produce unspecified cells.

They can be developed into a required tissue because of their ability of differentiation DNA replication reproduction.

Which statements are true about variations in the genetic code?
Murrr4er [49]

Answer:

<u>C) They may provide selective advantages. </u>

<u>D) Slight differences in the genetic code may have significant results.</u>

Explanation:

The genetic code is universal, and present in most living beings . Generally, in most living organisms, the same codons are assigned to the same amino acids.

DNA sequences make up genes that may have multiple variants, called alleles. DNA deoxyribonucleic acid, is transcribed into mRNA and then translated into amino acids that form proteins.

Natural selection mainly acts on phenotypes, which are dependent on proteins and the organisms's environment.  Phenotypes conferring advantageous traits are favored by the selection process- these help groups of organisms evolve over time.

Describe two examples of steroids and their physiological function.
Musya8 [376]
Testosterone is a steroid. Its physiological functions are:

Determines the the gender of a developing embryo

Development of reproductive organs and the prostrate gland in males

Responsible for secondary sexual characteristics in males such as deeper pitch, increased muscle bulk, hair on the upper lip

Regulates normal sperm development

Another is cholesterol. Physiological functions are:

Helps maintain the structure of cells and vessels improving overall health and function in the body.

Percursor to important sex hormones such as testosterone and estrogen.

Used as an insulator around nerves and is absolutely essential for brain function.

Precursor to Vitamin D, which supports a healthy immune and nervous system

Over-the-counter drugs commonly abused by teens and young adults include
SashulF [63]

Answer:

B

Explanation:

Any drug sold in the supermarkets, convenient stores etc  without prescriptions are called OTC-medication or over the counter drugs.

They are the group of drugs commonly abused  by young adults. Recommendation by  National Institute  on Drug Abuse is that , any  use of drug not related to medical purpose, but for mind-altering effects or arousal is regarded as an abuse. No doubt  these drugs are obtained over the counter because they are very easy to get, very cheap and legalized  by law to buy, thus easily accessible.

They drugs are high in contents which produces psychoactive effects when imbibed in over dose, and some may have damaging effects on the kidney and liver.

Other effects on the body physiology includes headaches, vomiting, nausea, seizures, tremors. etc.

Plz help me ASAP! Thank you
Ad libitum [116K]

Answer:

According to the diagram, cell growth and preparation occur in steps 2 and 4, corresponding to phases G₁ and G₂ of cell cycle.

Explanation:

G₁ phase consists of the beginning of the cell cycle, following the process of previous division, and occurs in a cell that prepares for a next division. In this phase growth depends on the proliferation of mRNA to increase protein synthesis.

G₂ phase —third phase of the cycle— is the continuation of the process of cell growth induced by protein synthesis. Changes occur at the level of cellular components, as preparation of the cell prior to division.

Greg Developed and Ear infection. His doctor gave him an antibiotic. The antibiotic killed all the bacteria in his body. What ot
Sati [7]
Antibiotics can have side effects.
When children take antibiotics at the first sign of an ear infection, they are more likely to have vomiting, diarrhea, and allergic reactions because of the medicine. Also, antibiotics can kill “friendly” germs in the body and cause other problems like diarrhea.

Over-use of antibiotics is a problem.
Antibiotics can help drug-resistant bacteria grow. These bacteria are harder to kill. They can cause illnesses that are harder to cure and more costly to treat. This increases the risk of complications and side effects. The resistant bacteria can also infect other people.

Hope this helps
