Corn was the staple food of the ancient cultures of Mesoamerica (today´s Mexico and Central America): the Mayas, the Aztecs and other peoples. It continues to be so until today. It was and is used as the base or an ingredient to prepare many dishes. For example, tortillas that accompany a meal in Mexico and in Central America, are made of corn. And the famous tamales, wrapped in banana leave, are made of corn as one key element.
