On April 5th 1764 the British imposed a tax on the colonies known as the sugar tax. This tax was developed as a way for the colonist help repay the British for their help in the Seven Years War. The reason the colonist opposed this law is because of "Taxation without Representation", a popular campaign slogan that was use during the revolutionary war. One other reason that the colonist opposed the tax was because it disrupted the economy that the colonist already had, they had to raise their prices, which went to inflation, and therefore made them lose business to the French.
