This civilization has had a strong influence on those who will come after them in the first place, Mayans and Aztecs. Civilization, among other things, is also known for unusual works of art such as carved large sculptures.

These sculptures where the heads are in the foreground in the opinion of some historians represent the rulers of Olmec. Given their design, it is considered that Olmec's authority was governed by the principle of a strong central administration. This opinion is alluded to by the fact that these stone heads are of colossal dimensions, and as they represent rulers, they are thought to have had great powers in the life of this people.
