Hammurabi's code was important because it was a major step forward for civilization because it protected the weak from the strong.

Hammurabi's code is a great Babylonian achievement because it established laws that created peace and stability.  Hammurabi had a purpose in mind while creating this code. Hammurabi's intention for his code was to prevent the powerful from oppressing the weak, in order to give justice to the orphans and widows, in order to give fair decisions and to give rights to the meek and oppressed people.

An eye for an eye kind of codes were established by Hammurabi in order to please his Gods. he wanted peace and Justice to be maintained in his kingdom and so he created this rules.
