Taken from the poem “The Latin Deli: An Ars Poetica” by Judith Ortiz Cofer (1992), the Puerto Ricans, Cubans, and Mexicans in the passage help create the image of Latin America’s great diversity. Since the poem is about the life of immigrants that had left their country to search for a better future in the United States, the passage mentioned above describes a situation in which the owner of a deli hears immigrants from different countries of Latin America (Puerto Rico, Cuba, and Mexico) talking about their plans or their countries. Moreover, the author wrote many words in Spanish that shows the mix between the Spanish and the English language. Some of those words are “dólares” (dollars), “El Norte” (The North), “jamón y queso” (ham and cheese), among others.

torisob [31]

Answer:

John tests Buck by commanding him to jump off a cliff, which Buck obeys before John stops him at the last minute. Buck luxuriates in his primitive, almost mystical connection with John, while John seems more confused and possibly scared of the implications of Buck’s devotion. In this way, John appears to have a less developed character than Buck, which seems surprising since Buck is a dog.
