Henry B. Gonzales (1916-2000) was the first Mexican American to serve as Representative in the United States Senate. He supported Mexican American rights and fought against segregation in public facilities during his time as San Antonio City Council, and during his time in Congress. He served in Congress for 37 years.
During his time in the Senate, he became famous because for his role during the Brown v. Board of Education where he stopped e<em>ight out of ten segregation bills. </em>
