This excerpt from 'Harriet, The Moses of Her People' published in 1886 describes the last part of one of those journeys from New York City to Niagara Falls along the underground railway.  Harriet Tubman was a black American woman who has escaped slavery and helped others do the same. The phrase mentioned above referred to one of her memoir where she told a companion that they got free from the slave tradition as they passed the border of the United States and reached Canada in the domain of Queen Victoria.
