The Spanish Civil War lasted from 1936 to 1939, it's said to cost perhaps half a million lives and depress even more. Ruined cities, towns and villiages were not a rare sight in the aftermath of the brutal war. For the victors it was a crusade against godless revolution, but for the defeated it struggle against the forces of reaction that has oppressed Spain for generations. Most see it as a battle between fascism and democracy. In July 17th 1936 a group of army officers rebelled against the government of the Spanish Republic, and workers took up arms to fight in the rising. Making what began as a millitary coup into 3 years of what's now called the Spanish Civil War. What makes the Spanish Civil War even more of a tragedy was before the beginning of the Civil War, exactly 5 years ago, the Spainards were cheering in the streets. Evidently in 1931 the proclamation of the Republic was born, and to the crowds the Republic meant that Spain had finally broken through the oppression that plagued the country's people. The king was replaced by mostly middle class liberals. Indeed birth of the Republic brought great hope to working class that their aspirations would be satisfied because for centuries peasants longed to own land, and industrial workers wanted their union rights recognized. For many the Republic seemed already the revolution, but the Republic's leaders knew that under the knew poltical surface the pillars of the old society remained untouched.

I wrote it a little long, and it's also my first draft; there may be grammical errors in the paragraph. I hope this helps :)

The Spanish Civil War (1936 -1939) was a clash between the two most dominant political groups in Spain, the Republicans who advocated for a democracy without a monarchy and the Nationalists who encompassed all the right-wing groups such as monarchists, conservatives, etc. The war broke out as the people opposed to the Second Republic, installed in 1931, seemed, in their opinion, to be taking a socialist turn. This division of the Spanish population between those who defended the republic and those who opposed it attracted allies from abroad. The Soviet Union and free thinkers from democratic countries like Britain, France, the U.S. (famous U.S. write Ernest Hemingway participated), etc. joined the side of the Republicans. On the other hand, countries ruled by right-wing dictatorships such as Hitler's Nazi  Germany and Mussolini's Fascist Italy aided the Nationalists.

For the Soviets, Germans and Italians, the Spanish Civil War battlefields served as a testing ground for their latest military tactics and designs in tanks, artillery, and especially, aviation. Most of the military equipment tested in Spain would see combat during World War Ii a few years later.

Among the nationalist band, a general would stand out in the eyes of the Nazi Germans: General Francisco Franco. Franco's way of thinking seemed to march Nazi ideology pretty well, so the Germans decided to back him up so that he could become supreme commander of the Nationalist Army.

The fate of the war was decided on behalf of the Nationalists because nearly all the units in the Spanish army held a right wing ideology, and were among the first groups to rebel against the republic. Furthermore, the great support of the Germans in equipment and "advisers" German servicemen whose role was to train Nationalist soldiers, yet they often take direct part in combat) and the lack of help from abroad due to Britain and France's strict neutrality policy would make the Nationalists defeat the Republicans in April 1939 and place Generalissimo Franco as dictator of Spain.

Which statement from Martin Luther's 95 Theses do you feel had the greatest impact on the Protestant Reformation? Explain your r
poizon [28]

Answer:

Fifty years ago my friends and I had a party where we read and toasted each of the 95 theses so at one point I certainly read ’em all, though granted the effect of all those shots, I don’t recall the higher numbered ones very well. In any case, don’t think the theses, which are focused on indulgences, are a very clear statement of Luther’s theology. After all, in 1517, Luther didn’t realize he was instigating the Reformation; and the full statement of salvation by faith alone and the rest came later. What made the Theses matter wasn’t doctrinal. One of the major factors in the Reformation was resentment of the financial burden the Roman church put on the German people—the indulgences were sold to finance the building of Saint Peter’s cathedral. Whatever purely religious motives the German princes had in supporting Luther’s rebellion, they definitely liked the idea of not shipping money off to Rome. The prospect of secularizing the monasteries was mighty welcome as well. No princely support, no Reformation.

I’m definitely going for thesis 62 — “The true treasure of the church, is the most holy gospel of the glory and grace of God”

Rome and the Reformers both taught that a man is justified by God’s work of grace, but, it is all important to see the real contrast between the Roman and the Reformation faiths. ROME taught — justification by God’s work of grace in man emphasizing the work of God in us and our co-operation with that work.

The REFORMATION — taught that man is Justified by God’s work of grace in Christ, emphasizing what God does for us in Christ, without our co-operation.
