However, on Sept 4, 1957, the governor Orval Faubus had the Arkansas National Guard support segregation and prevent the 9 black students from entering the high school. On Sept 24, 1957 President Eisenhower ordered the 101st Airborne Division (without its black soldiers) to Little Rock. On that same day he federalized the Arkansas National Guard in order to take them out of the hands of Governor Faubus.</span>
