Telomeres are structures found at the end of the chromosomes. They are protective structures made of repetitive sequences. They protect chromosomes from damage or fusing with other chromosomes. As the cell divides and divides, telomeres shorten. When they reach a critical point, the cell stops dividing, and might even undergo apoptosis (die).
Telomerase is an enzyme that adds nucleotides to telomeres to prevent their shortening. If all our cells expressed telomerase, the telomeres would never reach the critical short length to stop cell division. Therefore, our cells would keep dividing forever!
As you go to higher altitudes, there are less air molecules pushing down on you (lower pressure). When the pressure of a gas decreases, the temperature also decreases (the reverse is also true – when the gas pressure increases, the temperature increases).
