The Swahili Culture has developed over a thousand years via the amalgamation of various cultures.Mainly however it developed as a result of the native Bantu tribes that encountered the Arabs who set up trading outposts that resulted in the further development of villages and towns along the East African Coast. The members of these Bantu tribes intermarried with the Arabs who were foraging for natural resources, hunting for ivory and bringing the slave trade to life along these shores.
