G(x) = 2x² - 5x + 2 = 2x² - 4x - x + 2 = 2x · x - 2x · 2 - 1 · x - 1 · (-2)

= 2x(x - 2) -1(x - 2) = (x - 2)(2x - 1)

g(x) = 0 ⇔ (x - 2)(2x - 1) = 0 ⇔ x - 2 = 0 or 2x - 1 = 0

x = 2 or x = 0.5

-2 = a(-1)^2 - 4
-2 = a - 4

Add 4 to both sides to solve for “a”

-2 + 4 = a - 4 + 4
2 = a

Now that we have the value of a = 2, we can establish our quadratic function in vertex form:

f(x) = 2(x - 2)^2 - 4
