Answer: It is causing a tension in the poem.

Explanation:

You didn't wrote about what poem we should answer but i found that it might be The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe.

First of all, internal rhymes are referring to the model of rhyming words in the same lane in the poem which is causing tension in it.

In ''The Raven'' we can feel that tension is a very important part because we can feel the anxiety trough the poem.

Examples: lines 57-58:

<u>57.</u>

Nothing further then he uttered

not a feather then he fluttered -

<u>58.</u>

Till I scarcely more than muttered

"Other friends have flown before -

Internal rhymes are not in the end of the line, there are two rhymes words in 57. line and a third one in 58. at the beginning. They are connected also with the sound, not only the rhyme.

  • Uttered - fluttered - muttered.
