The American Civil War was one of the first industrial wars. Railroads, the telegraph, steam and iron ships, and mass-produced weapons were used extensively. The mobilization of civilian factories, mines, shipyards, banks, transportation, and food supplies predated the impact of industrialization in the First World War, World War II, and subsequent conflicts. All these elements were strengthened in the north where an incipient industry already exixtia, but in the south the situation was more complicated, since they did not have the same km of railways as the north, nor with the technology of this.
