Parris , Abigail's uncle, wants to know if Abigail is involved in witchcraft. Abiagil has been fired from Goody Proctor 's house and Parris does not know the reasons. He suspects that something strange and bad has happened between Abigail and Goody. Goody Protocol comes to the church not very often because she will not sit by a dirty person -<em>something soiled</em>-. This is the  evidence Parris has.

The remark reflects Parris' suspicion about witchcraft and his reputation. He is very interested in what Goody Proctor thinks about his niece, Abigail.  He is not interested, apparently, in the comment: "....something soiled..".

How do Lines 8-9 contribute to the overall meaning of the poem ? “No Man Is An Island”
velikii [3]

Answer:

The final lines of the poem rightly reassert the importance of community and how no man can be left alone to survive on his own, away from other humans.

Explanation:

In his poem "No Man is an Island", metaphysical poet John Donne talks of the importance of a community/ social interaction for humans to be sane and civilized. No man living alone and away from other humans can survive on his own, irrespective of what may have been presumed.

The lines 8-9 of the poem reads <em>"And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee"</em><em>,</em> which perfectly presents his point home by generalizing the death toll that is ringing for anyone. It could be for you or for me, but that's the uncertainty of life, for we know not when we will all die, but we will die one day, that is a certain fact. Being part of a society or among people is needed for a man to thrive and survive. And one day, the bells will toll for thee. These final lines perfectly resonate the important theme of how man is a social being, and not to be left alone/ living alone. These two lines reassert the importance of man's social dependency on others, his inability to be self sufficient and his need to be in the company of others.

In at least 150 words, explain how the concept of femininity is conveyed in "bernice bobs her hair."
sammy [17]

The concept of femininity is conveyed in "Bernice bobs her hair". F. Scott Fitzgerald's short tale "Bernice bobs her hair" gives readers a glimpse of what was deemed "womanly" or feminine at the time.

In the narrative, Bernice travels to see her cousin Marjorie. Both women are regarded as some of the most attractive and popular feminine women in their particular native lands. Bernice is seen as being a more "traditional" sort of lady, Marjorie whilst demonstrates a more masculine side to femininity.

Fighting breaks out between the cousins when Marjorie tries to get Bernice to change and align herself with her.

This essay emphasizes how norms can affect people, even if it means fundamentally altering who you are. Bernice experiences a significant character change before discovering her true femininity form and feeling fulfilled.
