The correct answer is - C. The desertification of Kumbi Saleh made it less important as a trade post.

Kumbi Saleh is thought to have been the capital of the Ghana Empire, and from what is known it has existed from the 9th to the 14th century. It was an important trading post where multiple goods were traded most notably gold, salt, copper, and slaves as exports from the empire. But as the climate was slowly changing the region was turned into a desertous place where life was getting harder and harder and also it started to lose its position as a trading post because the landscape was becoming very hostile, so little by little the place was abandoned.
