American troops in command of Lafayette staged raids Cornwallis and held him in the South.

Cornwallis made a blunder mistake. He should send the part of his Army to the North but he brought them to the Yorktown peninsula.

George Washington saw this moment as a great opportunity to ambush Cornwallis on the peninsula.

Also, the French fleet under Admiral de Grasse headed over to cut off Cornwallis.
