Carter wants to know if warming up will help runners sprint faster. Thirty track and field athletes volunteered to participate i

n his study. He randomly assigns 15 athletes to warm-up for 10 minutes. All 30 participants sprint the same distance. He calculates the mean for each group and determines that the mean for the warm-up group was 10.7 seconds, and the mean for the other group was 13.2 seconds. To test the difference of means he re-randomized the data 54 times, and the differences are plotted in the dot plot below. What can Carter conclude from his study?
The graph shows: (3) -2.5, (6) -2.0, (9) -1.5, (12) -1.0, (6) -0.5, (4) 0.0, (3) 0.5, (7) 1.0, (3) 1.5, and (1) 2.0. The parenthesis is how many dots there is at each point.

The difference in the means is significant because a difference of 2.5 is very likely.
The difference in the means is not significant because a difference of 2.5 is very likely.
The difference in the means is significant because a difference of 2.5 is not very likely.
The difference in the means is not significant because a difference of 2.5 is not very likely.

The correct option which states the conclusion made from the carter study is \fbox{\begin\\\ option D\\\end{minispace}}.

Further explanation:

In the question it is given that thirty track and field athletes volunteered to participate in the study to determine the effect of warming up on the performance of athletes.

To obtain the data for the study carter randomly assign 15 athletes to the warm up of 10 minutes and the remaining 15 athletes didn’t do any warm up.

After the warm up of 15 athletes all the 30 athletes were made to sprint for the same distance.

After the sprint it was observed that the mean time for the warm-up group was 10.7 seconds and the mean time for other group was 13.2 seconds.

The mean difference of the data obtained is calculated as follows:

\fbox{\begin\\\ Mean difference=Mean time of warm up group-mean time of non-warm up group\\\end{minispace}}

\fbox{\begin\\\ Mean difference = 13.2-10.7\\\end{minispace}}

\fbox{\begin\\\ Mean difference = 2.5 \\\end{minispace}}

The mean differences are plotted in the dot plot in the figure attached below.

The frequency of difference is 2.5 which is not likely to happen in the graph as it shown in the dot plot.

Option A

The difference in the means is significant because a difference of 2.5 is very likely.

From the figure attached below it is observed that the difference in the means is not significant because the difference of 2.5 is not very likely.

So, as per the above statement it is concluded that option A is incorrect.

Option B

The difference in the means is not significant because a difference of 2.5 is very likely

From the figure attached below it is observed that the difference in the means is not significant because the difference of 2.5 is not very likely.

So, as per the above statement it is concluded that option B is incorrect.

Option C

The difference in the means is significant because a difference of 2.5 is not very likely.

From the figure attached below it is observed that the difference in the means is not significant because the difference of 2.5 is not very likely.

So, as per the above statement it is concluded that option C is incorrect.

Option D

The difference in the means is not significant because a difference of 2.5 is not very likely.

From the figure attached below it is observed that the difference in the means is not significant because the difference of 2.5 is not very likely.

So, as per the above statement it is concluded that option D is correct.

Therefore, the correct option which states the conclusion made from the carter study is \fbox{\begin\\\ option D\\\end{minispace}}.

Tema [17]

Answer:

Surface Area = 85.75 ft²

Step-by-step explanation:

Surface area of pyramid = ½(Perimeter of triangular base * slant height of pyramid) + Area of triangular base

Perimeter of triangular base = sum of all sides of the triangular base = 5+5+5 = 15 ft

Slant height of pyramid = 10 ft

Area of triangular base = ½*base of triangle*height of triangle = ½*5*4.3 = 10.75 ft²

Plug in the above values:

Surface Area = ½(15*10) + 10.75

= (15*5) + 10.75

= 75 + 10.75

Surface Area = 85.75 ft²

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

If we assume the price remained constant, then the number of shares increased by 6%.

  (50 shares)(1 +6%) = 53 shares

The man then owned 53 shares.

Steven gets a weekly allowance of $14. He spends $2 each week on treats for his little sister.
Aloiza [94]

Answer:

4$

Step-by-step explanation:

First, you have to subtract 2 dollars for his sister.

Then, you are left with 12 dollars. If he splits it equally into three groups, then the answer is 4, as you divide 12/3

Morgarella [4.7K]

Answer with step-by-step explanation:

The way the question is worded, this actually shouldn't be correct. The correct answer should be 3:4.

Because the trapezoids are similar, we can find the ratio of their perimeters by actually just finding the ratio of their sides.

Why?

By definition, the corresponding sides of a polygon are in a constant proportion. The perimeter is simply the sum of all sides of the polygon. Since we're just adding the sides, the proportion will still be maintained.

Therefore, we'll just need to ratio of their corresponding sides. The only two corresponding sides that are marked are \overline{RS} and \overline{AB}.

The ratio of \overline{RS}:\overline{AB} is 18:24\implies \boxed{3:4}.

The reason why it ideally should be 3:4 and not 4:3 is because the question states RTSU\sim ABCD, which mentions RSTU first, so our answer should follow this respective order. I believe you were marked right anyways because the specific order is not specified, but generally, you want to give your answer respectively by default.
