How did the ottoman keep the heritage of the Byzantine empire alive

Background information...
    The ottoman empire got there name from the leader "Osman." The ottomans created there empire by taking in the Muslims people and protecting Greek Christians. The people that joined the ottoman empire voluntarily were treated very well. The ottoman empire was known as a frontier empire, meaning that they were made up of many ethnicities and religions.
The siege....
    In 1453 the ottoman's started a siege on the city of Constantinople. (the siege went on for 6 weeks). The empire of byzantine couldn't keep them away. They had a chain across the the harbor. The ottoman's went around the back, the shot a huge cannon and broke the walls. Thus they took control of the byzantine empire. The Constantinople was renamed Istanbul.
The heritage 
   Mehmet II built all sorts of mosques, public baths, water foundations. He also bribed people with jobs and money to come live in the new city. The heritage that was keep of the Byzantine empire was all the buildings that were built. It kept people there,kept the city alive and, happening. 
Similarities and differences
   The main difference of the two empires were their religions. The byzantine empire was primarily Christian and the Islamic were considered to be Muslim. They both went through a time period where they banned all religious figures other than the dominant religion. Both empires were constantly at war with each other until the Islamic empire took over Constantinople in 1453.
