Desertification: a change causing an area to become more arid. Desertification is a geological process whereby the gradual transformation of habitable land into desert; is usually caused by climate change or by destructive use of the land.

Diaspora: the scattering of a group of people outside of their homeland . Diaspora is defined as the dispersion or spreading of something that was originally localized (as a people or language or culture).

Drought: a long period of dry weather resulting in water shortages. Drought is defined as  a prolonged shortage of rainfall resulting in water shortages.
