A trait of a person could be Procrastination.

Perhaps this person procrastinates on getting schoolwork done so turns in assignments late and loses points. Perhaps he or she procrastinates studying for tests so fails. Perhaps this person procrastinates discussing ways to improve the grade with the teacher so does not raise the grade. All of these would lead to failing a class and thus not graduating.
