Mercedes is conducting a study about the costs of prom dresses. Her school has 2500 students. She asks 10 of the girls in her AP
Nostrana [21]
NO, drawing a sample only from AP statistics does not give a random sample of girls attending prom at the school.

Find the midpoint of the line segment with the given endpoints: (- 9, 3)(7, - 8)
Luda [366]

Answer:

\boxed {\boxed {\sf (-1, -\frac{5}{2} )  \ or \ (-1, -2.5) }}

Step-by-step explanation:

We are asked to find the midpoint of a line segment. The midpoint bisects the line segment, or divides it into 2 equal parts. We find the midpoint by finding the average of the x-coordinates, then the y-coordinates.

( \frac{x_1+x_2}{2}, \frac{y_1+y_2}{2})

The endpoints are (-9, 3) and (7, -8). Match the value and the corresponding variable.

  • x₁= -9
  • y₁ = 3
  • x₂ = 7
  • y₂ = -8

Substitute the values into the formula.

(\frac {-9+7}{2}, \frac{3 + -8}{2})

Solve the numerators.

  • -9+7 = -2
  • 3+ -8 = -5

( \frac{-2}{2}, \frac {-5}{2} )

Divide.

(-1, - \frac{5}{2} )

The fraction can be written as a decimal.

(-1,-2.5)

The midpoint of the line segment is (-1, -5/2) or (-1, -2.5)
