Read the excerpt from “A Visit from the Goon Squad.” Scotty climbed onto the platform and sat on the stool. Without a glance at

the audience or a word of introduction, he began to play “I Am a Little Lamb,” a tune whose childishness was belied by the twanging filigree of his slide guitar, its gushy metallic complexity. He followed that with “Goats Like Oats” and “A Little Tree Is Just Like Me.” The amplification was fine and powerful enough to eclipse the chopper throb and deliver the sound even to the distant reaches of the crowd, where it disappeared between buildings. Alex listened in a sort of cringe, expecting a roar of rejection from these thousands he’d managed secretly to assemble, whose goodwill had already been taxed by the long wait. But it didn’t happen; the pointers, who already knew these songs, clapped and screeched their approval, and the adults seemed intrigued, attuned to double meanings and hidden layers, which were easy to find. Which of the following choices best describes the structure used in this excerpt? Multiple switches are used between the action and commentary. A frame story is used to link the different stories together. Sequential order is used to present the events in the order they occur. Flashbacks are used to break with the chronological order of the storyline.

Hey there!

Notice in the story how the events of a single story are told in the order that they happened. Scotty sat down on the stool, began to play "I Am a Little Lamb," then <span>“Goats Like Oats” and “A Little Tree Is Just Like Me,” then the audience reacted to the set positively. No flashbacks are utilized and no other stories are being told during the excerpt besides the one about Scotty's set.

Based on this, your answer will be the second option, "</span><span>Sequential order is used to present the events in the order they occur".

Hope this helped you out! :-) </span>

In about two hundred words, explain how the literary devices used in the novel convey theme.<br>
777dan777 [17]

I don’t know which specific novel you may be referencing, but generally:

Literary devices can be used to convey theme in many ways. You can use them to convey theme by describing the setting of the story, the mood of the story, the moral of the story, and much more.

You can use foreshadowing to hint at future events important to the story, symbolism to represent important objects relative to the theme, such as a dove in heaven, and you can use a metaphor to assert that one object is another, which brings new meaning to the original subject for a renewed comprehension. These can all improve the conveyance of theme in a story.

These are just a few of the many different literary devices that you can utilize to articulate subjects within a story to add to the understanding or to signify the importance of any detail within the story.”
