Why did many colonists favor declaring independence
Nataly [62]
The colonists were outraged by a series of unfair taxes and other things that the king had done (put british troops in colonists' homes).... They had tried sending the King several documents asking the King to repeal the taxes and let them have representatives in Parliament. The final one that they sent was the Olive Branch petition. However, the King angrily refused all of their peaceful offers, and so they felt that their only option was to declare independence if the King wouldn't cooperate.

How do race and gender come into conflict in The House on Mango Street? Does one triumph as the more important concern, or do bo
Damm [24]

Answer and Explanation:

1. In "The House on Mango Street" there is a conflict between gender and race that can be seen when the author approaches the lives of women within the Latin culture, which is a strongly patriarchal culture, where women, in the poorest communities, they are considered in more submissive positions, without much opportunity to achieve a better life, which often generates abuse, bad treatment and lack of freedom.

2. The gender issue may seem to triumph over the race issue, but the author presents these two elements in a very balanced way and establishes a very strong relationship between them.
