<span>She was a
radical leader of China that wanted to preserve her country and its history of
dynasties. She was an Imperial concubine that had gained the throne upon the
death of the Emperor in 1856. Cixi refused to adopt Western models of
government but she highly supported technological and military reforms. She is
known famously in history as the woman who made a decree of banning foot
binding in the practice of Chinese culture. Cixi was also the woman responsible
for turning China into a Constitutional Monarchy.</span>
The trend towards densely populated urban centers begun in 1800's continued into the 1900's. Man's development of urban centers was a major step away from what seemed to be nature's way of living: on farms and sparsely placed homesteads. Industrial production required hundreds of thousands of workers and, especially in the second industrial revolution, scientists. The urban centers that emerged during this period, such as Paris, London, and Berlin, were quickly changing the ratios of population from rural to urban Berlin's population, for example, went from 66% rural in 1871 to almost 66% urban before the first World War (see "The Second Industrial Revolution").
Industrialization was the factor that contributed to the economic growth of the United states in the period from 1865 to 1920 and it aroused the most opposition. With industrialization came the urge for people to come to the cities for getting work. The people that came to work had to live in a very poor and unhealthy condition.
It can be said that society wants to punish the guilty;however, they are cautious when doing so. Society is afraid that the justice system is placing an innocent person behind bars for every ten people that are being set free. Our judicial system was put in place to protect the innocent and put the guilty behind bars; however, this is not so. We have a corrupt society that contradicts itself from the lowest court system to the highest government powers of Congress. When one political power takes control, it's like a gang or "mafia" take over with the people suffering without a voice.
