The Cherokee Indians were a pretty great Native American tribe that basically resided in the southeast parts of the United States. They resided in North and South Carolina, Georgia, and Tennessee later relocating south from the Great Lakes area. The name Cherokee interprets into "those who exist in the hills".
About 120,000 of these residents reside within the jurisdictional limits of the Cherokee Nation. The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians holds nearly 12,500 tribal villagers, while the United Keetoowah Band of Cherokee Indians holds roughly 16,000 tribal residents.
