Ottonian art is a style in pre-romanesque german art, very restricted to few cities and also to the most importants monasteries of that time, characterized by grandness and heaviness.

Those monasteries were the ones that produced most of the manuscripts, which were very known for its <em>illumination and medieval style in the texts done</em>. These manuscripts <em>contributed in a major way to the art</em> of that time, therefore that the monasteries had sponsorship from the emperors that gave them only the best equipment and talent.
