SOS:

Let MOUNTAINS be your physical features:

Mountains

 1. Mount Kilimanjaro. Africa's tallest mountain, an extinct volcano, Mount Kilimanjaro is in Tanzania.
 2. The Great Escarpment. Steep cliffs called escarpments are located along Africa's southern coast. The Great Escarpment rings much of Southern Africa, stretching from Angola to South Africa. These steep cliffs hinder the settlement of the region's coast.
 3. Drakensberg Mountains. The Drakensberg Mountains, the highest mountains of Southern Africa, rise up from the Great Escarpment. These mountains form the border between Lesotho and South Africa.

Mountain Affects:

 1. They create swift rapids and cataracts, making large portions of Southern Africa's rivers unnavigable.
 2. River water flowing over steep escarpments provides the hydropower to generate electricity for the region.
 3. In many places, the coastal plains at the base of the mountains are narrow, hindering settlement.
 4. Few natural harbors exist because of the region's steep cliffs.

These notes will help you form and essay. Hope this helps!!!

A very important feature in partly in the Sub-Sahara of Africa is the Great Rift Valley which stretches for about 6000km from Syria to Mozambique is a block faulted valley, 30 to 60 miles wide which represents a rift in the African plate of plate tectonics, similar to the ones under the ocean like the mid-Atlantic ridge. It has fertile soil in it, partly from volcanoes like Mt Killimanjaro, and also many large lakes like Lake Tanganyika, It provided a rich environment due to the soil and the lakes for example, for the Bantu people in the past, many of which had their kingdoms here. Ancient human remains have been found in it's soil by Richard Leakey.

14. what will ultimately happen to the juan de fuca ridge and the gorda ridge?
Juli2301 [7.4K]

Along the Juan de Fuca Ridge, volcanoes produce oceanic crust. The Juan de Fuca Plate cools, grows denser, and finally sinks beneath the less dense North American Plate at the Cascadia Trench as it wanders eastward.

Is the Juan de Fuca Plate dying?

Because the decaying Juan de Fuca plate is not sinking silently, scientists have a unique opportunity to investigate such impacts. They are intently observing the system's every tremble and burp. (We learned that a strong earthquake broke a tectonic plate in half in this way.)

How Fast Is Juan de Fuca moving?

The Farallon Plate, a much bigger oceanic plate that originally existed alongside the smaller Juan De Fuca Plate, is moving east-northeast at a rate of 4 cm (1.6 inches) each year.

What is happening between the Gorda Plate and the Pacific Plate?

At a rate of 5 cm per year, the Pacific Plate is diverging from the Gorda Plate as it moves in a northwesterly direction. At a much slower rate of 2.5 to 3 cm per year, the Juan de Fuca Plate (which includes the Gorda Plate) is subducting beneath the North America Plate.
