Which of these is one reason the Great Depression began?

History

The Great Depression began partly because of inflation, the federal reserve was putting a lot of currency into circulation without the gold and silver to back it up. Another reason was a rise in immigration. Many immigrants were coming from the east to experience the "New World" and get a second chance at life, however this caused lack of housing and job availability. There was also a drought in what we know as the "Dust Bowl". Most of the Northeastern part of the US was industrialized, so most of our food was grown in the northwest and the south. However because of the drought food wasn't as easily accessible as it was before, and if you did manage to find some at a market, inflation combined with the increased pricing made most foods nearly impossible to buy. Lastly there was the "Great Immigration" this is when a large number of people began to move south west looking for better opportunities. This should have been a good thing considering the influx of immigrants from the east, however this only created more problems. While those people left, their jobs were not filled because of the inflation, so their previous employer couldn't afford to hire anyone else. This happened thousands of times, and a lot of jobs were left unfilled and businesses shut down because they didn't have the money or the work force to continue to operate. This lead to a lot of people with very little money, no job, and because of the culture back then the people usually had a family to take care of. This became a cycle that triggered the great depression. I don't know if any of those are answer choices but I hope this helps!

4.16: A New Century Unit Test
Mazyrski [523]

Answer:

c. They wanted immigrants barred from the United States.

Explanation:

Nativism refers to a political position that privileges the welfare and the interests of the people who have been born in certain place (the natives) over immigrants. As more and more immigrants moved to the United States in the late 19th century, the nativist movement gained strength, and they wanted immigrants barred from the United States, especially those coming from China, Italy, and Eastern Europe. The nativists scored some successes, especially with the passing of the Emergency Quota Act of 1921, which placed restrictions on how many immigrants could enter the United States. This Act was further expanded by the Immigration Act of 1924, which banned immigrants from Asia and set strict limits on immigrants from other parts of the world, especially Eastern Europe. This discriminatory policy stayed in force until the passage of the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965.

What fossil discovered in the 1950s reinforced the hypothesis that Africa was the birthplace of humanity?
ser-zykov [4K]

The correct answer to this open question is the following.

Although there are no options attached, we can comment on the following.

The fossil discovered in the 1950s that reinforced the hypothesis that Africa was the birthplace of humanity was the "Australopithecus Africanus."

At the end of the 1940s, beginning of the 1950s, renowned archeologists John T Robinson and Robert Broom excavated the Sterkfontein Caves in South Africa and discovered a 2.3 million-year-old fossil they called "Mrs. Ples," or the Australopithecus Africanus.

Anthropologists consider that South Africa is the cradle of humanity. They think that the first hominids appeared there and they spread to other regions of the earth. The oldest one of the hominids was the Australopithecus and it is considered to have appeared on earth approximately five million years ago. The latest form of hominids, the H*mo Sapiens -you and I- appeared approximately 200,000 years ago.
