Answer: The number of lives lost was over twenty million

Explanation: The Taiping Rebellion was a massive rebellion that occurred in China from 1850 to 1864 between the established Manchu-led Qing dynasty and the Hakka-led Taiping Heavenly Kingdom. The Taipings were led by Hong Xiuquan, who proclaimed himself the brother of Jesus Christ, and their goals were religious, nationalist, and political in nature. They sought the conversion of the Chinese people to the Taiping's syncretic version of Christianity, the overthrow of the ruling Manchus, and a transformation of the state by upending the moral and social order of the whole of China.

This civil was ranks as one of the bloodiest wars in human history, is the bloodiest civil war and the largest conflict of the nineteenth century. Over 20 million people were estimated to have been killed during this period, with another 30 million people having fled the conquered regions to foreign settlements and other parts of China.
