From 1850 to 1860 was mostly ideological disagrreeance. With the new territories coming in like Texas or California the south wanted slavery and agricultural spread the North wanted to spread industry and "freedom" so to fix this congress came up with a compromise called the Missouri Compromise stating for every Slave state there will be a Free state. But to answer with simplicity it was most ideological disagrreeance between the two regions.
