There are several examples of conflict between the Chinese and American cultures throughout the excerpt , that being said the paragraph that shows the biggest clash is the one that leads to the end of the story, This happens because Waverly has grown up in an American place but raised to be Chinese , on the other hand her mom was born and raised in china so she has all of their traditions and learning’s in her mind and she tries to impart them into her children , as the story goes on they grow apart as Waverly becomes this chess prodigy and is supported passive-aggressively by her mom as she only says “its just luck” as Waverly wins match after match, and her mom also encourages her to go into tournaments and becomes so proud of her daughter that she goes shopping with her but buys nothing , she only goes out to show Waverly off to everyone else ,this (and several other actions done by her) makes Waverly uncomfortable and embarrassed and she ends up running away , but realizing she´s only 9 years old and can’t live on her own , she returns home but now seeing her own mom as her enemy.

are simply known as the ‘action’ words – may it be mental, physical or
mechanical. When verbs are paired with auxiliaries (helping verbs), they are
known as verb phrase. These helping verbs always go first before the actual verb.
Perfect
tenses serves a portraying the verb or the action word as something that
already happened or is completed, thus the term ‘perfect’. If it is present
perfect tense, it means that the action was already done relatively to the
present (has/have with past participle). If it is past perfect tense, action is
already finished relatively to the past (had with past participle and if it is
future perfect tense, action is complete relatively to the future (will have
with past participle</span>
