Why did the Great Compromise and the Three-Fifths Compromise involve so much debate and discussion at the Constitutional Convent

ion? The states were not ready to give up their independence to an all-powerful national government. The states believed the Articles of Confederation were working and did not need to be replaced. The correct answer is each state was most concerned for its own interests and needs.

The Great Compromise and Three-Fifths Compromise were two important laws that shaped the US during the Constitutional Convention. The Great Compromise was a necessity after states with smaller populations and states with larger populations fought over who whould have more control in Congress. The Great Compromise made it so that all states have equal power in the Senate (by having two Senators from each state regardless of size) and power in the House of Representatives being based on population.

The Three-Fifths compromise also represented an issue between states. Slave states wanted slaves to count towards the population so they could have more representatives in Congress. Free states did not want slaves to count towards the population, as it would result in slave states having more power in Congress. This resulted in the Three-Fifths Compromise, as every five slaves counted as three people towards a states population and representation in Congress.

Further Explanations:

Both the Comprises were presented in the Constitutional Convention of the United States held in 1787 and were centeringat the representation of each State in Congress.

“Great compromise” was a compound representative plan that integrated the states through a constitutional convention. The principal motive of the promise was to substitute the “Article of Confederation”. During convention, numerous discussions took place concerning the representation of representatives in congress for both larger and minor states and led to the establishment of a bicameral legislature.

While “Three-Fifths Compromise” was the pronouncement presented in the convention conferring to which it was discussed that the slaves should be counted as per populace at the stage of scheming of dweller for tax  and legislative purpose. The conclusion of the compromise was that the three out of each five slaves were reckoned and also helped in granting a third more seat to Southern States in the Congress.
