In the antarctic, the basic source of food is the phytoplanktons which are autotrophic and self-feeding organisms of the plankton community and these play a key role in the ocean, the sea, and the freshwater and they comprise of the tiny individual member and have a global biomass of 1%.
<u>They are rich with vitamin B, and they at times can mead to the acidification of the oceans when increase in numbers thus needs to be taken care of hence they are eaten by the shrimp population and they then contribute to the increase n the population of the bigger fish i.e the whales and thus forms the basic source of the food web. </u>
These phytoplanktons are also known as the producer if the antarctic food chain.
