Answer:

Jimmy Cross felt responsible for his death because he was the Platoon leader and was responsible for the well being and lives of his men.

Explanation:

Lavender was constantly afraid and was known to carry a lot of ammunition than what is required for his safety.

During the Platoon leader’s stop to investigate a tunnel, Lavender was shot in the head. This made the Platoon leader feel guilty about not being there to protect and guide him.

Answer:

They used profanity to downplay the severity of what was happening with the war.

Why did Lieutenant Jimmy Cross feel guilty about Ted Lavender's death?

He felt guilty because he was distracted and thought about Martha. He thought he could have prevented it. Cross feels guilty about his death because as the platoon leader he is responsible for the lives of his men. He feels that in his obsession about Martha he neglected to see to Lavender's safety. As O'Brien writes about Cross: He felt shame.

Hope This helps!

Read the excerpt from Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby. I lived at West Egg, the—well, the less fashionable of the two, though this
Anni [7]
<span>Based on the descriptions given, the inference that can be made is that although East Egg is the more fashionable place of the two, the way it appears on the surface is different compared to what it really is. Even though its glitzy with the white palaces that glitter along the water across the courtesy bay, it somewhat gives you a sense of foreboding that there’s more to it once you get past the doors of those palaces.</span>

1) Read the following student perspective and then choose your answer.
Arada [10]

Answer:

1: c) The student is qualifying the author's claim.

2: b) The student is challenging the author's claim.

Explanation:

Qualifying a Claim

It means, making a claim factually more correct, and persuading those to agree who earlier had disagreed with the claim.

The phrases<em> "Americans seem to be equally attracted" </em>and <em>"thus only partially fulfilling"</em> clearly show that the student is not challenging the author's claims nor is he defending it. But he is trying to make the claim factually correct and acceptable to those who disagreed with author's claims. Student's perspective is very clear. He has clearly conveyed his point of view.

Challenging a Claim:

As the term shows, it means to make the entire claim doubtful or clearly challenging its validity.

The phrases "just because numerous news outlets are available does not mean that Americans are interested" and "It is more likely that they are tuned into sitcoms, cartoons, and reality shows." indicate that the student is making the author's claims doubtful. He has raised a question over its validity.

The student is very clear in pointing out the flaw in author's claim.

What are four possibilities for concluding an essay?
nika2105 [10]
1. The Traditional Way: Wrap up the subject of your essay with a single sentence, concluding strongly will help gain marks.

2. If you used repetition in your essay, maybe repeat the line once more at the end.

3. Summing up strongly with a good heavy statement makes the nice impression that you were paying attention and worked hard.

4. Use the sentence you used to begin with, depending on what it is, it may make a nice finish.
