Baroque means a flamboyant, elaborately ornamented and sometimes bizarre style where the artists sometimes push their creativity to the extreme to attract the attention and show their skills.
A naturalistic approach is much more into simplicity and follow the natural flow of things, or to represent the simplicity of nature.
Because back then abstract art wasn't a thing so they had no choice the role has changed because of abstract art and there are so many ways to paint now
