The use of hands when talking, or reading, in public, is a form of non-verbal communication language that couples with verbal communication techniques to be more effective in conveying meaning, and also, in including the public in what is being said, or what is being read.

Non-verbal communication is basic in public speaking, of any kind, being because there is a speech being delivered, or because there is something being read outloud. The use of hands when gesturing, will help the audience become engaged, read and comprehend more than what the words can convey. So the hand gesturing will help to set up mood, tone and even convey further meaning. Without this form of communication, speech, and reading, become monotone activities.
