In which sentences is parallel structure used?
tankabanditka [31]

The sentence in which parallel structure is used is A) While making a necklace, Sharon strung sparkly beads, added heart charms, and attached a silver clasp.

The parallel structure is marked in this sentence because the <em>simple past tense </em>is used in the three clauses. The parallel structure, also known as parallelism, is <em>the use of a repetitive pattern in the sentence structure. </em>Its function is to give an equal importance to different ideas or words within a sentence. The use of parallelism is useful to balance writing and make a sentence easier to read. One way of balancing a sentence is to use the same tense in all clauses. The other sentences B, C and D <em>do not follow a repetition in pattern.</em>

What does Scout overhear Atticus and Aunt Alexandra talking in the living<br> room?
nataly862011 [7]

Hello. You forgot to report that this question was about "To Kill a Mockingbird". It is important that you always provide all the information necessary for your question to be answered, as you deserve.

Answer:

Scout overhears Atticus and Aunt Alexandra talking about whether Calpurnia needed to stay in the house.

Explanation:

Scout is a girl who although very young manages to understand very well the situations that happen around her. She lives with her brother, Jem; his father, Atticus; and a black maid named Calpurnia.

Calpurnia was primarily responsible for creating Scout (her mother died) and everyone in the family has a high regard for Calpurnia.

Meanwhile, Scout's family is visited by Aunt Alexandra, a very prejudiced woman who believes that Calpurnia should be fired and sent home, since she is black and, according to her thoughts, inferior and a bad influence.

One day Scout overhears his father and aunt Alexandra arguing in the living room. They are talking about whether it is necessary for Calpurnia to remain in the house, as Aunt Alexandra found it absurd that Calpurnia would take the children to a service in an African church, even with Atticus's permission.

How does Dobyns’s use of unusual structure affect the meaning of “Icarus’s Flight?”
butalik [34]

Answer:

D. The way sentences extend from one stanza into the next pull the reader along.

Explanation:

The myth of "Icarus" and his flight to the sun bringing his fall from the sky is a story we are all familiar with. It was this story that gives us the lesson of not going beyond what is dictated or not to be too curious or greedy.

Stephen Dobyns' version/ poem of the same myth presents the same case, but the only difference is that he presents the other possibility or other nature of the flight. For him, the escape doesn't merely mean an escape from the island or captivity, but it also signals the realization of what freedom is and to what extent it is available. For him, it was <em>"a great uplifting"</em>, <em>"fly[ing] precisely to the point of wisdom"</em>.

This unstructured and unusual pattern of poetry, the way the sentences are pulled along to the next stanza, without much punctuation makes the reader eager to keep reading. It <u>entices and arrests the reader's interest, pulling us along until the end. </u>

Thus, the correct answer is option D.
