United States have introduced the <u>Ocean Dumping Ban Act in 1988</u>, which <u>made it illegal to handle solid waste as well as any industrial waste and sewage by dumping it into the open ocean</u>.
The law became applicable starting from December 31, 1991. Meanwhile, there are several clauses that allow such actions, and provide possibility to pay penalties in certain cases.
