Members of a youth group held a bake sale to raise money for their summer trip. They sold 30 cakes, 40 pies, and 200 giant cooki

es, and raised a total of $684.50. The price for a pie was $2.00 less than the price of a cake. The price of a cake was 5 times as much as the price for a giant cookie. Find the price for each item at the bake sale

Answer: Cost of  a giant cookies = $1.39

Cost of a cake= $6.95

Cost of a pie= $4.95

Step-by-step explanation:

Let price of a giant cookie = x

Then,

price of a cake = 5x

Price of a pie = 5x-2

Cost of  30 cakes, 40 pies, and 200 giant cookies = 30 (5x)+40(5x-2)+200x

= 150x+200x-80+200x   [By distributive property a(b+c)=ab+ac]

= 550x-80

Given cost = $684.50

\Rightarrow\ 550x-80=684.50\\\\\Rightarrow\ 550x= 684.50+80

\Rightarrow\ 550x=764.50\\\\\Rightarrow\ x=\dfrac{764.50}{550}\\\\\Rightarrow\ x=1.39

Cost of  a giant cookies = $1.39

Cost of a cake = 5 x $1.39  = $6.95

Cost of a pie = $6.95 -  $2 = $4.95

Solve the system of equations by using substitution.<br> x+8y=-2<br> x-3y=20
zysi [14]

Answer:

(14, -2)

Step-by-step explanation:

To solve by using substitution, begin by solving for a variable in the first equation. Let's solve for x:

x+8y=-2\\x=-2-8y

Now we know what <em>x</em> equals. Let's substitute this into the second equation:

x-3y=20\\(-2-8y)-3y=20

We can then simplify:

-2-8y-3y=20 Given equation

-2-11y=20 Combine y terms

-11y=22 Add 2

y=-2 Divide by -11

So, we now know the value of y = -2.

To find the value of X, we can substitute the value of Y into one of the equations. Let's use the first one:

x+8y=-2

x+8(-2)=-2 Substitute for y

x-16=-2 Distribute 8

x=14 Add 16

So, we now know the value of x = 14.

Therefore, we know a solution to the system of equations is (14, -2).

7x-4y=20 for y when x=3
viktelen [127]
I think it is y=-.25
7*3 - 4y = 20
21 - 4y = 20
subtract 21 from each side
- 4y = - 1
divide each side by - 4
y= -.25

45x+10y+50=?<br> PLZ HELP ASAP DUE TODAY!
Viktor [21]

Answer:

5(9x + 2y + 10)

or

x = 0

y = -5

Step-by-step explanation:

If you are just factoring this, you will factor a 5 out from everything.

5(9x + 2y + 10)

or if you are trying to solve just isolate one of the variables and then substitute it into the original equation

45x + 10y = 50

10y = 50 - 45x

y = 5 - 4.5x

45x + 10(5-4.5x) + 50

45x + 50 - 45x + 50

x=0

45(0) + 10y + 50

0 + 10y + 50

10y + 50

10y = -50

y = -5

and it would be x = 0 and y = -5
