Read the excerpt below and answer the question. Learning would spoil the best n*gger in the world. Now," said he, "if you teach

that n* gger (speaking of myself) how to read, there would be no keeping him. It would forever unfit him to be a slave. He would at once become unmanageable, and of no value to his master. As to himself, it could do him no good, but a great deal of harm. It would make him discontented and unhappy. Why is Douglass happy after hearing his master say these words in this excerpt from Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, An American Slave? He realizes that he is of great value to his master. He realizes that education is his ticket to freedom. He realizes that his master is more afraid of him than he is of his master. He realizes that his master is trying to keep him from being discontented and unhappy.

I feel the answer may be "He realizes that education is his ticket to freedom." because if African Americans at that time were educated, then they would be considered equal to "whites". People made sure that African Americans were uneducated and illiterate so then they could reason that African American were no use than for just cleaning, taking care of plantations, and being slaves to their masters.

Let me know if this helps anyways :)
