Atticus says, "I proved him a liar but John made him look like a fool... John looked at him as if he were a three-legged chicken or a square egg.” Atticus explains that Bob Ewell is blaming John Taylor for what happened in court. Ewell thought that he'd look like a hero who saved his daughter from a terrible black man. Instead most of Maycomb now see Ewell as an abusive liar.
