Answer:

The answer is letter A) He is startled.

Explanation:

Tom, George, and Myrtle are characters in the novel "The Great Gatsby", by F. Scott Fitzgerald. George and Myrtle are married to each other, but she has been having an affair with Tom, a wealthy, and also married, man. In Chapter 7, George tells Tom he and his wife will be moving west. He implies he has noticed something about Myrtle - probably the fact that she has a lover. Tom is startled, but does not say anything that could implicate himself. He thought Myrtle would always be there, always available to be with him whenever he wanted. Realizing that she has a life of her own makes him surprised:

“I’ve been here too long. I want to get away. My wife and I want to go West.”

“Your wife does,” exclaimed Tom, startled.

“She’s been talking about it for ten years.” He rested for a moment against the pump, shading his eyes. “And now she’s going whether she wants to or not. I’m going to get her away.”

[...]

“What do I owe you?” demanded Tom harshly.

“I just got wised up to something funny the last two days,” remarked Wilson. “That’s why I want to get away. That’s why I been bothering you about the car.”

“What do I owe you?”

“Dollar twenty.”

The relentless beating heat was beginning to confuse me and I had a bad moment there before I realized that so far his suspicions hadn’t alighted on Tom. He had discovered that Myrtle had some sort of life apart from him in another world, and the shock had made him physically sick.

Why are benvolio and mercutio worried about romeo ?
Stolb23 [73]
Well think about it, Benvolio and Mercutio are Romeo's best friends. They are worried about him, because firstly he is in love with Rosaline - this love in unrequited. This makes Romeo very depressed for a long period of time. So, of course they are worried about him. Also, after Capulet's party, Romeo mysteriously disappears, which leaves both Mercutio and Benvolio worried for him. As well as the fact that Tybalt discovered that Romeo had gatecrashed the party and now is looking for vengeance. Hope this helped.

Amanda [17]

Answer:

I would have the half days at the end of the school year already marked. I would have it show times for the class switches. For example when you go next to your school calendar it would say 11:xx switch from math to lunch. You could also have your own personal calendar that tells you when your clubs are. This would work in the same way as the other calendars.

It shows that the Lins have successfully hosted their American friends.

Explanation:

"The All American Slurp" by Lensey Namioka is about the Lin family adjusting to their new atmosphere of America. The whole family of four had moved from China to America and were starting to re-establish their lives. The daughter of the family is the narrator where she describes various instances of her family trying to be American in their living.

The above excerpt shows the time when thy had invited some Chinese friends for dinner, along with their neighbors, the Gleason family. The narrator was friends with their daughter Meg. And it was this occasion that is mentioned. This event shows that the Lins had successfully hosted their American friends. The Gleasons had previously invited them for dinner which turns out not so successful for they had no idea how or what to eat. But this time, the success of the meal is evident in the way their guests were after the dinner.
