The answer is B. During the 1800s, cotton was the main cash crop grown in the southern United States in the Black Belt region. This period was also during the height of slavery where slaves were used for forced labor in growing and harvesting the crop. Part of the reason for America Civil War was the Southen insistence on keeping up slavery even when the rest of America was recognizing the tragedy of the culture on black people.
