Islamic fundamentalism makes law be like it was thousands of years ago since it's based on the teachings of religious books. That's why punishment is often severe such as stoning people or similar. There is a high amount of death punishment in there and fundamentalist countries often still practice this. This is commonly seen in areas where ISIS is found.
