The One Child Policy in China started in 1979. The communist party was worried about the large population and its constant growth, so in order to slow down the growth of the population they enforced the One Child Policy. The name of this policy though is misleading, as approximately half of the population was allowed to have more than one child, and the reasons for that were numerous. This policy was the strictest in the urban areas, while in the rural areas it was much less strict. The One Child Policy ended in 2015, when it was voted out and now everyone in the country is allowed to have two children.
