The correct answer here is the last option, that is D.

The Duke and the King are conman are they are conning Mary Jane for the money her father had left, after he died, in his will. He writes the note as way of helping her, so that in case the judge needs witnesses she can go to the last town these to man had conned people and get them to testify against them.

For those who may think I exaggerate the contrast
Ivanshal [37]

This question is incomplete, here´s the complete question.

For those who may think I exaggerate the contrast between the former river canyon and the present man-made impoundment, I suggest a trip on Lake Powell followed immediately by another boat trip on the river below the dam. Take a boat from Lee's Ferry up the river to within sight of the dam, then shut off the motor and allow yourself the rare delight of a quiet, effortless drifting down the stream. ln that twelve-mile stretch of living green, singing birds, flowing water and untarnished canyon walls — sights and sounds a million years older and infinitely lovelier than the roar of motorboats — you will rediscover a small and imperfect sampling of the kind of experience that was taken away from everybody when the oligarch and politicians condemned our river for purposes of their own.

I Know Why the Cage Bird Sings

What do you think the author feels about their childhood?
lisabon 2012 [21]

In I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, author Maya Angelou’s purpose is to tell about her childhood, while her viewpoint shows how she thinks and feels about her childhood. I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings is a 1969 autobiography recounting the early years of American writer and poet Maya Angelou.

It is clear that this title had great significance to Angelou, as it was the title of her entire life story. In her autobiography, she talked about the struggle of being a black author and poet. She often felt that her words were not heard because of the color of her skin. She felt that in some ways, she was still experiencing slavery. Although African American people were free people in Angelou’s time, there were still many restrictions on them in society, making it so that many black Americans did not feel free at all.

hope this helps! :)

UNIT 8 JOURNAL PROMPT 2: A WORN PATH
lutik1710 [3]

Answer:

Welty says Phoenix is “very old and small” and walks with a cane and I infer that she is poor from the rag on her hair and her flour-sack apron. With unlaced shoes and tired steps, she seems an unlikely “phoenix." But her name is not purely ironic. Phoenix is strong, seen in the way she deals with obstacles like thorns and a hunter’s gun. Welty hints at this when Phoenix says that she isn’t as old as she thought. Her strength and dignity suggests a phoenix-like ability to rise from the ashes of poverty and racial isolation. The name also suggests Phoenix’s longevity: though the story takes place in 1941, she was already too old in 1865 to go to school. Like a phoenix, too, she makes her journey again and again without failure. This is why Eudora Welty chose to name the main character Phoenix.
