At the end of the war and with the victory of the United States, Great Britain promised to leave the borders with Canada unchanged and dropped the project to create an Indian region in the Northwest part of the country. In 1818, the US and Great Britain reached an agreement that established the border with Canada along with the parallel 49, from the Rocky Mountains to the Strait of Georgia. The British retained Vancouver and the United States gained control over Oregon, Montana, Washinton, Idaho territories.
