The Twelfth Song of Thunder is a Navajo poem that celebrates the sky, the land, and earth´s creatures. It was sung as part of a traditional Navajo Mountain Chant ceremony performed traditionally to bring about rain. It reflects what an important part nature plays in their culture. In the native Navajo culture nature was everything.
The Twelfth Song of Thunder exultates “(...) The voice of thunder / Within the dark cloud / Again and again it sounds, / The voice that beautifies the land (...) The voice of the grasshopper / Among the plants / Again and again it sounds, / The voice that beautifies the land”. This excerpt reveals the deep connection between the members of the Navajo nation and the surrounding environment, which consisted of the many sounds and voices that emanated from nature. The Twelfth Song of Thunder presents rich descriptions of the beauty that can be found in nature in the eyes of a Navajo, and illustrates the intrinsic admiration for the land and for what is present in the land, as the Navajo lifestyle is inherently linked to natural phenomenons.
If I had to choose id to choose, set design because it's a one-person project. This means you can take your time and not worry about if it fits like when u do costume design. It also is the most important part of the story and that makes it harder if you are a costume designer and have to wait to see if the clothes match the set. This is why I picked the set design.
